Geee...... all seems quiet on this Western front!!!!
So I'll share a discussion from another board.
GL 1800 Front fender Extenders.
There are several out there. Hard plastic, metal, metal and ruber.
There seems to be a issue of cracking rear portion's of the front fender after some have installed fender extender's. The Rear fender half is expensive to replace!!!! The reasons fender plastic cracks and breaks seem to be numerous. But I kinda go along with something flipping up and hitting the solid extender or the weight of the extender it's self causing the problem. I like having the front of the engine protected from road splach, but I went in a bit of a different direction.
For 5 years now I have had my own flexable extender, with no plastic damage at all. What I did was make an extender out of 3/16 inch thick flexable... fabric reinforced black belting. This type of extender is sold as a "Mud Flap" in cruiser catalogs. My extension curves to the shape of the fender, is flexable to not transfer any shock to the plastic, long enough to keep the engine cowl clean and only cost anout $8. I installed it with Goop adhesive to the inside of the lower fender skirt. Looks great and is in an area not that visable anyway.
If anyone is interested, I can email you pictures of the extender and how it looks mounted. Unfortunatly from this remote Co. computer I cannot post photos due to security protocols. But when I'm home I can email pictures.
This flexable Fender Extender works for me! Wanted to wake up this board!!! Anyne out there??? |

The Big Bike fender extender has worked well for me for nearly 7 years now. No fender cracks yet, and lots of debris has been kept off the front of my bike! I wish Honda made the front fender a couple of inches longer, so we wouldn't have to worry about this. _________________ John

Ay Son..
So there is life out there!!
I agree on the longer fender. Glad yours is working. Mine is just a low cost alternative.
I am not one for a lots and lots of added on doo dads, trim. chrome and LED lights. Just a few is all I require. But for others that is fine. A friend of mine has a rolling light show. Good for him... but not for me.
Another friend has a Black 2002 Wing and no front fender extender.....!
Enjoy your riding season. Everyone be safe. |

Most of the chrome I've added is functional, but I don't begrudge those who like to dress their Wings a bit more. To each his own. I've added a couple of pieces of chrome that are purely decorative, namely rotor covers and a front fender rail. So I can't throw any stones, and someday, I'd like to get genuine, chromed valve covers, because they look really nice. But that's probably a pipe dream!
The important thing is, it's a great bike to ride! The fact that it's also a great bike to personalize is just a nice bonus. _________________ John
